As Lakers come back to these hallowed halls, we may notice some things are different. Here’s quick overview of the changes:
- Cell phones are not permitted during class time and must be shut off and placed in a pouch grid for attendance purposes
- Bathroom passes may only be used for 5 minutes outside of the first and last 10 minutes of class and students must go to the nearest bathroom
- Food is not allowed in classrooms (since changed to teacher discretion)
- ID cards are required for all students, and IDs must be in their possession at all times
- After-school mandatory detention is back! Be careful to follow the above rules!
- Things that are being “tightened: Bathroom pass color coding, pink pass checks, and hall sweeps, Chronic absenteeism, Incorrect door entry, Early release from classrooms, Illegal parking and unneighborly behavior, Teachers must stand outside classroom during passing time, Teachers must update gradebook every two weeks, and Teachers must offer a retake for tests
Here’s what some Lakers have to say about the new rules:
Jerry C (25’): “I think [the phone rules] do make sense. They do bring up a good point, there are a lot of kids in this school that are addicted to their phones. But, it’s very draconian, almost like they’re trying to control everything. You should get to choose what you want to do with your phone. It’s your choice.” \
B Dykoski (‘26): “I think the new rules are a little controlling. I understand why they put the rules in place, but it seems like they’re controlling things that are unnecessary, like bathrooms.”
Victor C (‘27): “I agree with [the phone rules] because I don’t use my phone that much in class. Phones really distract people and make it hard for the teachers.”
