Student Council is your connection to the school administration, they help plan school events, fundraise, and work to improve the school community. Here at Southwest High School our student council is an integral part of our school and community.
Unlike other schools who might have a student election for class president, our president and vice president are appointed by the previous year’s president and council. The president each year is appointed from within the student council.
To get into the student council you have to interview, then the current council and president decide who is allowed to join the council. Essentially the current year’s president is the one who decides who gets to be a part of the student council and ultimately who can become student president. This has been the system for multiple years and was inherited from the previous teacher advisor.
How can we represent the student body in our student council? Should we have an election to decide the president?
