This past Friday, the Laker football team had our rivalry game against the Washburn Millers. Though it was an unfortunate 14-28 loss, it was a well fought and high spirited game. Students both playing, and supporting, were very hyped up and supportive. Otto Bijnagte (‘26) said on gameday, “I’m hopeful that we will win. I know the guys can do it.” The student body was ready to cheer the players on, and give them inspiration. But it seemed like the players were already energized and ready to begin. Linebacker Leif Kranz (‘27) said on Friday, “I’m feeling great, [Washburn Players] are bums. I’m ready for a blowout.” With the tensions high, and the student section fired up, the game began. With an exciting first half, we were down, 7-11. I met with cheerleader Charlotte Lian-Anderson (‘26) at the half. “I feel great. I feel inspired. I feel like we are going to win.” That was definitely the atmosphere for the rest of the students in the student section. Hadley Haroza (‘28) said “I feel awesome. I have high hopes for a victory tonight at my first game.” With several more touchdowns exchanged between each team, and an amazing interception by Southwest, the game was never dull. Although the final result was a loss, it was a great game both on, and off the field.
