Alex Vogel (‘24): “The application process can be quite confusing, but it’s not as scary as you think. You don’t have to have everything figured out right away. Senior year is for relaxing and enjoying your life with your friends, so use it!”
Quinn Nelson (‘24): “Start everything earlier than you think you need to… You don’t want to get caught doing that stuff all at the last minute. Give yourself time to get things done.”
Lizzie McDonald (‘24): “I would advise that when you’re applying don’t limit yourself because getting into a college doesn’t define your worth and no one is going to think less of you if you do or don’t get into a certain college because college looks different for everyone.”
Milo Sigelman (‘24): “The biggest tip I have for the application process is using the same essays multiple times. When you are applying to lots of colleges it might require you to write tons and tons of essays. A lot of the colleges use similar questions so you can use different pieces of different essays multiple times.”
A Lindseth (‘24): “I would say that your essay doesn’t need to be the most amazing perfect thing ever. Just make it as good as you can.”
Anna Bomar (‘24): “The stress you’re feeling now will pass…Remember to find a balance of working on your applications and having fun your senior year!! Too much of one and not enough of the other can actually increase your stress.”
Chelsea Cain (‘24): “I think working on applications gradually and not procrastinating is a good way to do it…I would also say apply to schools because you want to go there!!! If you have schools on your list that you have just because a family member wants it or a friend wants it, it makes a lot more work for something you don’t actually want to do.”
Elle Mason (‘24): “I would recommend getting your essay done before applications open up so there is less stress!”
Hazel Gleason (‘24): “I would recommend applying to a ton of different schools in different locations, with different student populations, and with different styles because that way you have variety when you come to make the final decision. I would also say as far as essays and supplementals go always be thinking about what you want them to say about you: like telling a story is good, but what do you hope your writing conveys to the admissions people about you as a person, and why is it an important piece of you for schools to see?”
Nathan Hickman (‘24): “I would say get them done as early as possible so you don’t need to think about it. Just because you can wait until January doesn’t mean wait until January.”
Megan Waller (‘24): “Be sure you would want to go to every school you apply to. So many people overdo it with so many applications (including me), and it’s not only a waste of money but a waste of essay writing time with all the supplementals. And trust your instincts about the type of school you want to go to. I could’ve ended up at a very small school and I am so thankful that I recognized I didn’t want that before committing.”
Morris Callahan (‘24): “Apply for as many scholarships as you can. I didn’t do this and I ended up not being able to afford to go to the school that I REALLY wanted to go to because I didn’t apply for any scholarships.”
