Our spring musical ‘Anastasia’ debuts Thursday, March 13! The musical Anastasia is an adaption to the 1977 film, and is centered around the rumor that the Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna of Russia had managed to escape and survive the execution of her royal family. The show opens in 1900s Russia and follows the story of Anya, a young woman with amnesia who remembers almost nothing of her past and bears a strong resemblance to Princess Anastasia. With a distant memory of Paris as her only clue, Anya is determined to discover who she really is, and find her family. When two conmen hear of the reward for Princess Anastasia’s return, they offer Anya a ticket to Paris, if in return she poses as the lost Princess. Their journey is one of friendship, love, and persistence for the truth.
When asked about the show, Ruby Saindon (‘27) who plays Countess Lily Malevsky-Malevitch voiced her opinion, “Anastasia is an interesting, fun, and tragic story with a happy ending that you have to come see! It will make you laugh, it’ll be entertaining, you’re gonna love it!” Another cast member Georgia Gleason (‘26) said, “Come see Anastasia, it is super fun! Great cast, great crew!”
With this being her first year in a Southwest High School show, Hadley Haroza (‘28) shared, “The kids are so wonderful and talented, even if you’re not into theater, watching it will be fun!” Likewise, Ines Mojica (‘28) said “Get excited to see the amazing ensemble dances and lead solos in the musical this year!” Featuring talented singers, and popular songs you will recognise such as “Rumor in St. Petersburg,” “In My Dreams,” and “Once Upon a December,” the solos and songs are one of the show’s biggest highlights.
The musical also features elaborate costumes, gorgeous makeup, sets, and tech all led by Southwest students. Additionally the show is accompanied with live music put on by our very own Pit Orchestra, so secure your tickets! Anastasia plays through eight nights: Thursday, March 13th through Sunday, March 16th, and Thursday March 20th, through Sunday March 23rd. With all the hard work put into the show, the cast and crew sincerely invite you to come and see Southwest’s spring musical production of Anastasia.
