Last Friday the Southwest Lakers played their homecoming game against the North Polars. North has been one of the best teams in the city for decades. The Lakers put up a good fight, but we couldn’t put the Polars on ice, losing 28-14.

Despite the loss, Laker pride was provided by the overflow and colorful crowd in the student section. Laker fans came out with purple, black and white to show support and spirit. Chants never stopped from the students and cheerleaders. A homecoming week full of school spirit set the tone for homecoming and the game.

The Lakers Offensive player of the game was senior Declan Maida, with 11 rushing attempts averaging 5.8 yards and a touchdown. He also had 27 yards in the air. He has been a standout player the whole year with the most rushing touchdowns and attempts on the team.

The Lakers standout defensive player for this game was senior Charlie Boucher. He led the team with five solo tackles and 17 in total. Boucher recently had his 1st D1 offer from The University of Saint Thomas and has been impressing scouts all season.

This week Southwest is traveling to DeLaSalle to face the Islanders. Make sure to pop out on Friday to show support for the team!
