Recently, one of the most relevant video games has been Fortnite. Over the past couple years, the game has seen a decline in player count due to poor gameplay and bad additions to the game, such as certain weapons and consumables that make the game less fun. On November third, 2023, there was a massive spike in the number of players because they brought back the old map. While this may not seem like such a big deal, it was for a lot of people, and it got them to start playing again.
Epic Games brought back the old map and loot pool that haven’t been seen since 2019. This brought many people back to the game that they used to play every day. With these newly added changes to the game, we asked some students questions on what they thought about it, and this is what they said. We asked Everett Carr (‘27) about his favorite item, and he said, “I like the pump shotgun after they brought it back because it’s OG.” We also asked Vinicio Ruiz (‘26) about his thoughts on the new season, and he said, “It’s honestly so good; it really brought my inner child back out.” On the first day of the season, over five million people were playing the game at one time. Over the course of November third, 44.7 million players jumped off the battle bus, and over 102 million hours of the game were played.
Since November third, the game has had a steady resurgence of players, and the game looks to have reattached old players that had quit the game before. Ari Sigleman (‘26) was one of those players who came back to play. His thoughts on the changes to the game were, “I’m happy they brought back the old map, but I wish it was longer because the game might not be as fun anymore after the month ends.” The OG season ends on December second, 2023, and there will be a big live event hosted by the game that will kick off the next season of Fortnite. After the event takes place on the afternoon of the second, many players will probably stop playing, and the player count will decrease once again. The game has seen many ups and downs, but it will be interesting to see if it will make a comeback for good or if it will fall off once again.
Is OG Fortnite back?
Fortnite has seen its ups and downs. It has had 25 seasons and has been played by millions of people for over five years. Over the years, there have been incredible seasons, and there have been terrible seasons. Chapter one is often considered to be peak Fortnite. Here is a ranking of the best seasons in Chapter one.
- Season 5 was the best season because it was the most fun. It had the best player base before people got too good at the game and made it less fun.
- Season 8 was the second best because it changed the map a lot, it had a free battle pass, and was just overall a great season.
- Season 6 was a phenomenal season because it had zombies and the weapon pool was incredible. It made the game very fun and entertaining.
- Season 4 had great gameplay. It had many changes to the map that overall improved the game. It also had one of the best Battelpasses ever. It had a high player count and people played a ton. The gameplay was very good because of the loot pool and map.
- Season 7 was very fun because planes got added. It was the Christmas season and the map was covered in snow. They also added the infinity blade which was very good and overpowered.
- Season 2 was a very big improvement from season one. It had a great battle pass which made people want to play the game more to unlock all the skins. It had many updates from previous versions.
- Season 3 had one of the first sweat skins in Fortnite, it was modeled off of John Wick and if you saw someone wearing it you knew they were good. It was pretty similar to season 4 but the game wasn’t as smooth and as entertaining.
- Season 9 this season was a step down from the previous season (season 8) but it was still a solid season. The loot pool this season was very annoying for many long-time players due to there being very unskillful weapons such as the drum shotgun.
- Season 1 ranks ninth because it was the start of the game. It was fun but there were things that needed to be changed and it was kind of basic.
- Season 10 was the worst out of the ten because it had the worst meta and was not as enjoyable to play.
